The twig seen on this endangered Glycine tabacina plant is not actually a twig. It’s actually an amazingly convincing camouflaged Twig Looper Moth Caterpillar.
The head and prolegs, as seen in these photos, are folded to appear as twig ends. You can see the legs as the caterpillar unfolds to return to its ‘inchworm’ motion along the plant – and resume eating!
