On 4.8.15, in the Gilberton Woodland, Ann, Catherine & Heather carefully planted out 11 pots of native orchids rescued from Kangaroo Creek Reservoir .
Thanks mostly to Ann and Cathryn’s good efforts, we were very pleased at how well the orchids looked after planting, can be seen in the comparison photographs below.
Pot of rescued Purple Cockatoo Orchids (Glossida major) before and after planting.
Pot of rescued Stately Helmet Orchids (Corybas dimenicus) before and after planting.
Pot of rescued King Spider Orchids (Caladenia tentaculata) before and after planting.
Other species planted include:
Mosquito Orchids (Acianthus pusillus)
Spring-flowering Gnat Orchids (Cyrtostylis reniformis)
Onion orchids (Microtis spp)
A Greenhood Orchid (Pterostylis spp. possibly P. pedunculata)
As we were leaving, Phil came briefly (in his lunch break) to see the rescued orchids, plant a few local plants he’d grown and do some weeding.
All in all, a very productive day despite the short notice!
